TI-Pspice Version numbers and Dates?

When I opened TI_Pspice yesterday, I was told that there was an updated version, which was then installed. I seem to recall that it was called "2021.2", but perhaps I am mistaken.

Since then, I have had to perform a Windows system recovery, which I suspect has wiped out the 'updated' version and left me with the old one.

Unfortunately, there appears to be no "check for updates" option in the HELP drop-down menu. And, I cannot seem to find any indication of what the current version number is, anywhere on the TI or Pspice website.

It is also very confusing that the version number from 2020 (#17.4)  is the same as the version number of the latest version (#17.4....see screen-shot, above!), even though my very first download of TI-Pspice was April 9th, and the update that I informed of (yesterday) must've been released in the past week. Which would've made the update a 2021 version, of course.

The version numbers----- which appear from the screen shot to have not incremented in the past year--- could be the result of a  simple typographical error. The screen-shot below, from the "About..."  field of

the HELP drop-down, says it is a 2021.1 version, whereas the fine print at the bottom declares it to be "17.4-2020 S006 Windows SPB 64-bit Edition"

If anyone can sort this out, I would appreciate it, particularly as TI-PSpice may 'think' that I am running the latest version (as it was offered to me,  download and installed) and, if it was in fact wiped clean by the Windows "system restore", I may not be offered another opportunity to update (until, perhaps, another version is released!).

  • Hi Michael,

The first screenshot contains a typo, the "2020" in red should be "2021". In other words, you are on the latest version we put out this Monday. We will get this fixed in the next update.

Same thing at the bottom on the "about" UI. Thanks for pointing it out.

    Regards,
    JC

  • Perhaps you could add a "Check for Updates" option in the HELP drop-down menu....

  • Sorry about the yellow border. I clicked the wrong button.

The software automatically checks for update at launch so there's no menu item under HELP for check for updates... Please let us know if you disagree.

    Thanks,
    JC

  • Hello, JC:
Thanks again for the very quick response.

Regards the update process, it is not obvious that PSPICE for TI is doing these updates automatically. May I suggest that, from the "ABOUT" field of the HELP drop-down menu, that the display says something like, "PSPICE for TI checks for updates automatically. Your software, Version 'nnnnnnnnnn', is up to date."

For example, FireFox does this on their "About". Their system checks for updates and let's you know if there is an update available, and allows you to download it directly from this field. According to what you've just told me, the PSPICE for TI "About" field only needs a line of permanent text to inform the user.

  • Hi Michael,

    Thanks for the input.

A similar function is available on the start page (top center). It is of cause not as prominent as having a pop-up, a choice resulted from some objections to pop-ups which requires click-away.

Nevertheless, we'll revisit this based on your suggestion.

    Thanks,
    JC

  • To clarify, I wasn't suggesting a Pop-Up window. I just think that if you have any doubts as to whether you're up to date, you should be able to go to the Help menu, select About, and there you should see some reassuring words about the version you are using.

A pop-up, every time you started the application, would be truly annoying.

  • Thanks for the clarification. We can certainly look into that.

    Regards,
    JC
