CC2640R2F: advertising tx power

Part Number: CC2640R2F

Hi TI,

I take notice of the parameter--txPower for advertising.

as the comment, I found the RSSI maximum value changed after I changing the value of txPower.

in my opinion, the parameter make controller filter some advertising which tx power stronger.

However, I think the tx power value is the bigger the better. In this case, master can find slave easily.

So can you tell me when does the developer change this value? In other words, can you give me an example that developer wants change the value instead of GAP_ADV_TX_POWER_NO_PREFERENCE?

And whether this view is correct--" the parameter make controller filter some advertising which tx power stronger. "?

  • Hi,

Please apologize for the delay. If I understood your question, you would like to know when a developer would reduce the Tx power, given that the maximum power would be the safest way to find and connect to a peripheral.

The answer to this question goes down to the core philosophy of Bluetooth Low Energy: the higher the Tx power, the higher the power consumption. Therefore, for applications where a long battery life is important, this detracts from this feature.

Another aspect that will influence of a central finding a peripheral is the Advertising Interval - how many times per second a peripheral will advertise itself to be found. Given the advertising will forcefully turn on the RF Tx Power Amplifier, it will consume power and therefore reduce the battery lifespan.

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael
