CC2652R: BLE and OpenThread DMM

Part Number: CC2652R
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SIMPLELINK-CC13X2-26X2-SDK

In a previous thread it was made clear from the internal team that OpenThread needed to be "DMM-ified" to make it work with BLE. Since that thread a couple of SDKs have been released which do not address this issue. Is there an internal target date for including this in the SDK?

  • Hi Alex,

Have you considered the upcoming Matter Specification?  This incorporates the protocols you are interested in under a common connectivity standard.  TI has several resources available for further consideration:

  • I've read the Matter docs and, quite frankly, this is an absurd response to my question. I want both bike wheels to operate at the same time as advertised and I keep getting offers for a bigger unicycle wheel.

I need BLE and OpenThread to be able to operate concurrently with DMM. Matter is another protocol on top of OpenThread which "makes it easier to connect devices" which is in no way related to my issue. In the demo, they press a button to disable OpenThread and provision with Bluetooth, which is the exact opposite of the problem I'm trying to resolve.

I don't want another protocol. I don't want more software to bloat my applications. I don't want to be pointed to another untested specification which requires more development, more long term testing, and more time to make it work. I just want what TI has promised me for almost 2 years now.

If it seems like I'm really upset it's because I am really frustrated with the lack of engineering resources. I want straight answers, not deflecting to another unreleased product.

  • Alex,

I apologize for the expectation set by M-W a few months ago.  I believe this was a misunderstanding and that he was possibly referring to the early Matter demo instead of a genuine Thread + BLE DMM example.  As far as I am aware, there are no plans to incorporate such examples into the SIMPLELINK-CC13X2-26X2-SDK.  I understand from your previous E2E post that you encountered several difficulties when attempting to integrate BLE and Thread into your own DMM solution.  I will therefore converse with the Software Team about the recommended development path for users such as yourself who need this specific application.

    Regards,
    Ryan
