CC2642R: BrakTooth Vulnerabilities

Part Number: CC2642R
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640, CC2640R2F, CC2540, , CC2564C

I plan to start testing our TI CC2640 and CC2642 based products for the BrakTooth vulnerabilites.

"While Espressif, Infineon (Cypress), and Bluetrum Technology have released firmware patches to rectify the identified vulnerabilities, Intel, Qualcomm, and Zhuhai Jieli Technology are said to be investigating the flaws or in the process of readying security updates. Texas Instruments, however, doesn't intend to release a fix unless "demanded by customers."

TI's response is very inadequate in my opinion.

TI: Any formal statements to the forum regarding this?

  • Hi Michael,

It looks like you are not referencing the proper device here. The "BrakTooth" vulnerabilities you are referring to are only for Bluetooth Classic (also called Bluetooth BR/EDR).

Bluetooth Low Energy devices like CC2640R2F, CC2642R, CC2540, etc. are NOT affected.

With that being said, I only have a limited knowledge of our Bluetooth Classic products. It would be best if you could open a new thread (for example referencing the CC2564C device) to make sure the proper team get looped in.

    Thank you for your comprehension.

    Best regards,

  • Exactly what I was looking for. :-)

    Thanks for the response.
