Hello,

we have problems for running software on MSP430FR5994 with Bluetopia Stack for CC2564.

We use the Evaluation Boards MSP-EXP430FR5994 and CC256xEM.

We made changes in the stack to configure it for the Microcontroller. Bluetooth and Debug UART are initialialised correctly, Debug UARt is also working correctly.

But the Bluetooth-UART just sends the firsty Byte and the there is no more communication.

Is that a known problem and somebody can support us on that?

Hi Marvin,

Just to be sure, the CC256XQFNEM is the CC256xEM you are referring to, correct? That is the one (along with the CC2564MODNEM) that is compatible with the MSP430.

The MSP430FR5994 should be compatible with the Bluetopia stack for MSP430 with a few changes to the UART initialization.

What baud rate are you using to communicate between the MSP430 and CC256x?

Yes it's the CC256XQFNEM.

For the UART we use 115200 bps as baud rate.

Hi Marvin,

Excellent, that is the correct baud rate to use. I think the issue is still related to UART initialization. Do you have RX, TX, RTS, CTS, and nSHUTDOWN connected (for reset)?

Are you able to provide a logic analyzer trace of these pins?

Hi Jacob,

yes every port is connected.

We don't have a logic analyzer probe. But if you can say me, which signals at what step you wan't, i can measure it with the oscilloscope.

What is working until now, is: Bluetooth Modul get's a reset with nShutdown, RTS is switching to low. Controller sends 0x01. After that there is no more communication.

Ok, good it sounds like RTS and reset are functioning correctly. Just out of curiosity, what exactly are you trying to send from the MSP430 to the CC2564? Are you trying to run an example from the Bluetopia stack?

Just to clarify on your previous remark, you said that the controller sends 0x01. Are you referring to the microcontroller, or the BT module (sometimes referred to as a BT controller)?

I think oscilloscope captures of RX, TX, CTS, RTS, and nShutdown would be helpful.

Hi Jacob,

Here two pictures from the oscilloscope for you.

The first one ist with RTS and Reset. This seems to be ok.

The second one is the first triggered slope on MCU TX. It's 0x01, but there isnt anything on the MCU RX.

If you need more samples, please let me know.

Hi Marvin,

It looks like your RTS and Reset are working correctly. Can you provide a high-level overview of how you ported the MSP Bluetooth stack from the MSP-EXP430F5529 to the MSP430FR5994?

In general, I found that I had to change the hardware abstraction layer, UART baud rate, and UART byte sending thread to accurately port code from one microcontroller to another.
