Why is the CC2531EMK dongle so expensive compared to the Nordic nRF52840 dongle?

Many factors impact the price of a development kit or EVM. This unfortunately is the only official USB dongle kit from TI. If there are any technical support inquiries we can support, we are happy to help. Alternatively, 3rd party CC2531 dongle kits may be found from other sources as well.

I only need Bluetooth LE. Is this dongle more than just an MCU dongle? It is also a full fledged development kit? The cost is in the same order as most BTLE development kits I have seen (and obtained). It just happens to be plug in instead of connected by cable like most DKs. Its an order of magnitude smaller than any DK I have seen.

For BLE usb dongle, O suppose you should use CC2540 not CC2531. You can find cheaper products on Alibaba such as m.alibaba.com/.../1600288839099.html

You will not be able to download firmware using only the CC2531EMK or similar USB dongles as they do not have an on-board debugger and are not included with purchase of the EMK (the CC-DEBUGGER is typically considered for 8051-based system-on-chips from TI).  The CC2531 also does not support BLE, so the CC254X will need to be considered (as YK has already recommended).

How can this be 1/10th the price of the same unit as sold by TI if it is the same thing? I don't get it!

Distributors set prices independently based on IC availability and production costs.  Similar Design files are freely provided for anyone who wants to fabricate their own units.  Please contact Alibaba to inquire concerning their prices.

As I know, TI provides the kit for development not production purpose and other company’s can refer to reference schematics to do mass production for lower price. Basically, it should work and function correctly. If you have any concern, you can contact seller.
