Apple Ipad and bluetooth

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540, CC2560

Does anyone know if any of the TI bluetooth ICs will work with Ipad? The CC2540 would be nice as it's a one chip solution but I don't think the Ipad is BLE.

  • Hi Ken,

To my knowledge, there are no end-products in the market that are qualified with LE support yet. I do think this is going to change quite soon.

The TI "classic" Bluetooth devices such as CC2560 should work with any existing Bluetooth devices (including iPad). In the case of iPad, you need to be part of Apple's "Made for iPad/iPhone/iPod" program in order to be able to communicate with it.

    Best regards,

    Karl

  • Thanks Karl, do you know if generic devices require Apple's program to communicate? I see lots of generic keyboards and such for ipad.

  • Ken,

From what I know, the Apple devices do support a limited number of standard Bluetooth profiles (HID, headset etc.). You should probably consult some Apple documentation to verify.

    Best regards,

    Karl
