CC2652P: BLE observer + Zigbee end device DMM implementation

Please note that this combination may be more challenging due to the BLE central role.

Thanks for the reply during the holidays! Can you provide some high-level guide for how to change the BLE role from peripheral to central in the DMM example? I am trying to create a project but the first problem is the BLE role setting is locked in the example.

Try right-clicking on the .syscfg file, then "Open With" --> "Generic Text Editor" (this should open up the raw text of the .syscfg file).

Then set "ble.lockProject = false;" to "ble.lockProject = true;".

This should allow you to change the BLE "Device Role" in the normal SysConfig view:
right click .syscfg file --> "Open With" --> "SysConfig Editor"

You might need to reference the .syscfg files of other BLE projects (e.g. simple_central) to see what ble components to add/remove in the dmm's .syscfg file.

Note that we must consider the above as an exploratory route, since a DMM example with BLE Central role is not provided in the SDK.

I modified the dmm_zed_switch_remote_display_app example and made it work as BLE observer + ZED switch. The basic functionality looks fine but there is a problem with the power consumption. The BLE observer is performing a periodic scanning in the program, but when the scan window is finished the current remains 1.5mA, which looks not in standby. Only when the Zigbee role takes control of the radio and after the Zigbee TX/RX the current then becomes normal.

Please see below capture from EnergyTrace with a 300ms scan window and 1.28s scan period, the poll rate of the ZED is 3s.

I did a test with ZSTACK_START predefined symbol off and the current consumption became normal, the device will step into standby between scan windows. And I also compared the current with the original dmm_zed_switch_remote_display_app example, the device can also come into standby between advertising. I was using the power policy from the dmm_zed_switch_remote_display_app example and updating the state to be DMMPOLICY_BLE_ADV when scanning because there is no activities for BLE central in the example.

Am I using the power policy wrong or this is expecting behavior? I really need some help to figure out the reason behind the behavior, thanks!

I'll likely need to look a little bit more into the syscfg generated DMM code, and check how this is used in the DMM layer.
