CC2652R7: Replacement for CC2642R-Q1

Hello,

We're trying to enable BLE feature in vehicle, and found one automotive grade BLE chipset which is CC2642R-Q1, but the internal flash and ram size is some limited than what we're expecting. I also found a pin-to-pin replacement chipset CC2652R7 which can meet our requirement in flash and ram size, but it's not marked with automotive -grade. So my question is what might be the critical issue if we use CC2652R7 in vehicle?

Hi Xiaofeng,

Yes, the CC2652R7 is a pin to pin compatible device, but there is not an automotive grade version of the device. It is up to your company to decide whether you can accept the risk and trade offs of using a device that is not AEC-Q100 in an automotive application. We will not be able to provide the same level of documentation and quality information for the CC2652R7 as we do with the CC2642R-Q1. What types of limitations are you currently experiencing? Have you followed our documentation on optimizing flash / RAM?

Hi Evan,

Thanks for your confirmation. I checked the document you shared, looks like it's some risky to use it as the replacement in our case.

Currently we're implementing our own bootloader and application based on the chipset, this causes some risk to bring all necessary features to fit in the room allocated for application. Do you have specific document about optimizing flash/ram?

That makes sense. Are you concerned about flash or RAM or both?

Do you have an idea of how much flash / RAM you are going to be over the limit?

Hi Evan,

For now we still have more than 20K RAM left, but less than 10K flash is available for now. Flash will be some concern for some other features. Maybe I can try to reduce the reserved flash for bootloader and user data to save another 10K, and with the referred optimization, I believe the situation would be much better.
