Hi team,

My customer wants to use this evaluation board with the CC2640, but with BLE 5.1 FW downloaded. Is this possible? What would be the process for this?

Hi,

The CC2640R2 is able to support the BLE5 stack. We have BLE5 examples in the SDK that the customer can use to start their development. I would recommend referencing the BLE5-Stack User's Guide available in the SDK. The SimpleLink Academy may also be very useful in helping the customer learn how to use our devices.

Thanks Jan. Just to confirm, they can download the 5.1 FW from online to their EVM, and the guides you have will walk them through how to do it?

Hi,

Yep! The customer should be able to download the SDK from here: SIMPLELINK-CC2640R2-SDK

The information contained within the User's Guide and the SimpleLink Academy should help get them started. Since they are interested in BLE, I would suggest they start with the Bluetooth Low Energy Fundamentals SLA lab. This lab is in BLE4.2, but it contains useful information in how to navigate the SDK, flash the device and work with the device. All of this knowledge is directly applicable to the BLE5 stack on the device as well as the BLE5 examples contained within the SDK.
