CC2642R: Debug CC26X2 in CCS with JLINK

Hi,

Recently we started to develop on the CC2642R chipset integrated with our internal device, and different from previous work on Launchbox, only JTAG interface is available for debug purpose. I tried to enable the Segger J-LINK Emulator in CCS, and started to debug with J-LINK connected to device, but looks like the debug session can't be started automatically as below:

And I have to connect the device and reload the program, then start debugging. The option "load symbols" and "load program" after connecting the device won't be able to debug on device successfully. I don't know if there is some other special settings for using JLINK for debug purpose in CCS, could you guide me for this?

Hello Xiaofeng,

Make sure the option to autoconnect on debugger startup is enabled for the project.

Hi Ki,

One more minor question with JLINK debugger, when I tried to add breakpoint in the code, but it can't be enabled immediately if I add it when program is running. It's only enabled immediately if it's added when program is already in paused state by click button "suspend". Is there any other trick for this?

Note CCS will try to use a standard breakpoint with J-Link. So there are two options if you wish to set a breakpoint while the target is running.

Option 1: Since the target needs to be halted when the breakpoint is set, you can enable the option to always halt the target when making a debug access:

This will allow the debugger to auto-halt the target, set the breakpoint, and then resume execution again. Hence this is an INTRUSIVE action.

Option 2: Use a hardware breakpoint. A hardware breakpoint does not need the target halted to set a breakpoint. To set a hardware breakpoint when using J-Link, you need to do it from the J-Link control panel. From here you can set hardware breakpoints.
