CC2540: A certain failure rate which cannot read IEEE BD address through SMARTRF flash programmer

hi,

my customer has a certain failure rate which cannot read IEEE address.

In production line, my customer needs to read the bd address. But they found that some boards are failed to read IEEE address and failure rate is 2.5%. 

The error is as below "Debug interface is locked".

But they use "Block debug commands" for all boards. Why do there only 2.5% have this issue?

can someone help comment what I need to check?

  • It seems caused by you select Block debug interface. When you did this, you have to full erase your chip to unlock it to perform the action.

    Are they trying to read the IEEE address before or after blocking debug commands?  As YK stated, once the debug interface is blocked it should not be possible to perform this action until a full erase has correctly unlocked the device.  It's concerning if most devices can still be read from after blocking debug commands.  https://www.ti.com/lit/swru069 

    Given the percentage of failure, this error could also be an indication of a faulty connection to the device.  The customer could try to reflow the boards in question and further ensure that the hardware is stable.  They could submit their design to SIMPLELINK-2-4GHZ-DESIGN-REVIEWS if there are any outstanding concerns.  It may also help for debug purposes to see whether all devices which display this behavior are from the same lot.
