Interested in cc2340

I was about to jump on the Nordic bandwagon for BLE development when I discovered this new low energy part from TI in my news feed - the CC2340.

The process for getting the details for this part appear to be a bit of a rigamarole.  I'm a Canadian and when I click on the preview webpage for details there is a form to fill out for US Export Control. That's fine - we do this all the time for various parts from suppliers in the US.  A support request is then filed.  The support team then comes back with a response saying it's all good on their end but that it needs to go to another team for software export control.  And that's where the process dies....  This is supposed to be a couple of days not a couple of weeks!  I'm not sure why this is so problematic.  Does TI have something against Canadians?  I know a lot of engineers who have developed their product lines using TI parts (I've been using MSP430 in my parts for the last 20 years and they've been fantastic).  So what gives?  TI is getting close to losing me as a customer.  Even just a response of no for whatever reason is preferable to nada.

  • Perhaps this is just limited to the US only for now?  Has anyone outside of the US had access to the details of this product?  I need to make a move soon and can't wait around forever.

  • Hi Willem,

Thank you for the interest in the new CC2340. I am sorry for this experience and I'll make sure we do our best to speed-up the process.

We are receiving a huge number of requests every day and we have to review each one of them manually in order to make sure we are granting access to actual customers and not to competitors. When it comes to export control, TI has to comply with the US government rules. This is why you had to fill the US Export form.

Beside complying with US government rules, we do not filter customers base on their country.

I'll check internally whether something is wrong with your application. Otherwise, you may want to try to open a new request, and make sure to provide as much details as possible.

    Best regards,

  • Thank you for the response.  I appreciate that.  I understand and can imagine you have a lot of interest in this part.  It ticks a lot of boxes.  Sorry to be a squeaky wheel.
