CC2652R7: UART Emulator in Low power mode (Sensor controller)

Hi,

I'm using sensor controller as UART Emulator and integrated it in my project based on BLE Peripheral example.

I tried using UART emulator in Low power mode and its not working. Looks like the 2MHZ is not enough to emulate uart with 9600 baud rate.

But I want to reduce the power consumption of my board. So any way can I put the sensor controller in Low power mode when there's no ongoing uart transaction ?

Also how to detect an incoming packet in uart emulator and quickly switch to active mode ?

Hi Madhusudhan,

Please review the Dynamic Power Control section of the Sensor Controller Studio Help Documentation to see that the UART Emulator is off in Low Power mode. You can choose to disable the Sensor Controller UART Emulator to save power during no activity, but it will not be possible to fully turn back on in time to immediately receive incoming bytes. If possible, the connected UART device should send dummy bytes to warn the CC2652R7 that it should re-start its UART communication.

Hi Ryan,

Even if the connected UART device send dummy bytes, how the CC2652R7 knows about the incoming bytes ? Should it be configured like a GPIO and look for interrupts to restart UART emulator ?

Also any other way to reduce power consumption of sensor controller when using UART emulator ?

Your assumption is correct, you would have to change the UART RX to an interruptible GPIO pin to observe the incoming dummy data. You could also consider a flow control enabled setup with UART RTS/CTS pins. Otherwise, the Sensor Controller must be in Active Mode for UART emulation.
