Bluetooth - Headset Profile and Serial Port Profile

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540, CC2560, MSP430BT5190

we are trying find a Bluetooth product(s) that use the Headset Profile (HSP), and the Serial Port Profile (SPP).  Is the CC2540 capable of these two profiles with a single IC, or are two needed?

  • Sorry, the CC2540 is not capable of either of those profiles. The CC2540 is a single-mode Bluetooth low energy (BLE) device and does not run classic Bluetooth. Those profiles do not have BLE support, as BLE is not capable of the data rates that those profiles would require.

Consider looking at the CC2560 for standard BT: http://focus.ti.com/pdfs/wtbu/cc2560_slyt377.pdf

    Thanks

  • Ravi,

The CC2560 is a device capable of providing the RSSI. In fact, one of our sample applications provides this number already (temp in the Mindtree SDK).

For more information please look at:

  • Rob,

The CC2560 is capable of both Profiles. SPP is provided as part of the MIndtree Bluetooth Stack that works with the CC2560 and the MSP430. HSP is also possible but you will need to discuss this with Mindtree directly since it is not provided publicly.

  • Thank you,

Fine, Shall we get same RSSI info in any Opp modules. Please suggest me. Because SPP can't support OPP mode.

    Thanks & Regards

  • Ravi,

The CC256x+MSP430 solution can support Object Push Profile (OPP), but you will need to discuss this with Mindtree, the Bluetooth Stack provider since only SPP is currently publicly available.
