CC2540 Getting Started

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540, CC2560

Hi all,

I'm interested  with CC2540 but at the same time I'm overwhelmed with the all the information from this website.

I'm  working on RC Car project. Using Android, Bluetooth and PIC. It works fine. Now I'm trying to make it better and smaller.

I understand CC2540 combined the MCU + BT into 1 chip. I'm interested to know more.

Questions:

1. Can I detect CC2540 using  by Android/iphone? If not, which module can be detected using Android / iPhone?

2. Using CC2540 Mini Development Kit, can I program the MCU?

3.Can I connect CC2540 Mini Development Kit to prototype board / breadboad?

Thanks,

All

  • Hi Paul,

    1. Not yet. In order to communicate with CC2540, the phone must support Bluetooth 4.0 (CC2540 only supports the Bluetooth low energy spec, which was introduced in Bluetooth 4.0). To my knowledge, there are no such phones on the market yet, although we believe there will be some phones with Bluetooh 4.0 support launched later this year. If you wish to have compatibility with current phone models, I would recommend looking at the CC2560, which supports "classic" Bluetooth.

    2. Yes. There is a USB programmer included in the box. You will also need a C compiler for 8051, we support the one from IAR. There is a free 30-day trial version available.

    3. There are pin-row connectors on the board that you can connect other things to. To keep things small, they are half-pitch compared to the most common pin-row connectors, so you may need an adapter.

    Best regards,

    Karl

  • Thanks Karl. This is helpful. Straight to the point.

I will take a look on CC2560 then.

Btw. I didn't receive any notification  when you replied my question.
