CC2650: Error initializing emulator: (Error -260 @ 0x0). CCS nor my computer is detecting the XDS 110 probe on the launchpad

Part Number: CC2650
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , CCSTUDIO

Hello,

I have recently bought a CC2650 and this is what is happening out of the box.

I wanted to try to run a simple peripheral example project, from the BLE SDK 2_02_07_06.

But whenever I try to run it, CCS gives me an error and says that it can't find my XDS 110 probe. For reference, here is the error.

I tried to update the firmware of my XDS 110 by following the instructions referenced in the error message.

As you can see, whenever I use the xdsfdu -e command, the computer says that no XDS probe is detected.

I am not sure why my computer nor CCS is detecting my XDS 110. Please help.

  • Hello Safwan,

From where did you get the LAUNCHXL-CC2650, is it brand new, and are you using the short USB cable provided inside the box?  What version of CCS and OS are you using, and have you tried CCSTUDIO or Flash Programmer 2 as well?  I recommend trying to reset the PC and reviewing the "Similar topics" E2E threads on the right side of this page.

    Regards,
    Ryan

  • I ordered the LaunchXL from Mouser in Dallas, and Yes I am using the cable that was provided. I also tried switching the cables and trying different ports but that did not resolve anything.

I am on windows OS and I first got CCS 7.4.0, but after I realized that this was an older version I got the new CCS 12.0.0. But this did not resolve the issue either.

I have never used flash programmer 2 before and am not familiar with it, but since you mentioned it here I downloaded it. When I plugged in my board it showed me an XDS 110 and asked me to update the firmware which I did. But even after this, it did not do anything on my computer or CCS. So I think that FP2 can detect the XDS, but my computer and CCS can not. I am not sure what more to try. Please Help.

  • I just trie running FP2 after running my CCS sample project and now even the flash programmer is not detecting the XDS 110. This is what it shows.

  • Do you have a second LaunchPad to verify, or have you tried a separate computer?  Otherwise the device appears to be malfunctioning and you could try to order a replacement or refund from the distributor.  I also recommend considering evaluation of the LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1 instead.

  • Previously, I had been using a friend's cc2650 launch pad, and it was working great. But then it stopped working and I couldn't even run example projects anymore. After a lot of troubleshooting, we decided that the launch pad may be broken so we ordered a new one. The new one is the one I spoke about in my posts above. It is brand new, out of the box and is not running the sample projects.

  • Have you tried on a different computer yet, and are you using a USB 2.0 port without any other USB devices connected?  It appears that your machine does not recognize the drivers.  You could try to install the XDS Emulation Software to determine whether this will improve behavior.  There are also debug suggestions in the XDS110 Debug Probe page.

    Ryan
