How connect a Bluetooth Low Energy Device to a Smartphone?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540

Hi TI'supporter:

If I use the CC2540 as a BT Low Energy device to connect a smartphone, the smartphone need have hardware(new BL4.0 chip) and software(include BLE protocol) support or just need software update? I know the BlueZ update to bluez-hcidump-2.1(Updated hcidump utility for more Low Energy decoding support including SMP and ATT protocols), Is it means Android will support BLE soon?

Can you introduce any info to help us to understand how many things we done (include smartphone design) to achieve a device communication with a smartphone through the BLE chip/device?

another question about the CC2540 development, if CC2540 as slave  device, Can it send/receve the data to/from master(time sharing operate)?

Thank you very much.

  • Hi,

A cell phone would require both Bluetooth 4.0-capable HW and SW in order to support BLE. We can't make any comments on specific OSes, but in general we believe there is good progress in getting BLE supported in major mobile OSes.

If you could get in touch with us directly (talk with your local TI representative to put us in touch), we could discuss a bit more about the mobile side.

A CC2540-based slave is able to both receive and transmit information from/to the master. When in a connection, the master sends a packet every connection interval, and the slave's response can contain data.

    Best regards,

    Karl
