CC2640R2L: Can the CC2640R2L run the function of AOA Receiver in the SDK?

Part Number: CC2640R2L
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640R2F

Hi team,

Here's the request from the customer:

The SDK version is simplelink_cc2640r2_sdk_2_30_00_28. Can the CC2640R2L run the function of AOA Receiver in the SDK?

Using 2640R2F can run normally, but burning the same project into the CC2640R2L will not work.

Do they need to modify some configuration or change the project file?

Customer found that the main difference between CC2640R2F and CC2640R2L is that the latter removes the Sensor Controller Engine. Does it cause this situation?

Could you help check this case? Thanks.

Best Regards,

Nick

  • Hi Nick,

    From the BLE-Stack Migration Guide:

The CC2640R2L is functionally identical to the CC2640R2F except the following hardware peripherals are not included in the CC2640R2L:

    • Sensor Controller Engine
    • Comparators
    • Constant Current Source

You can run CC2640R2F software examples that do not utilize the Sensor Controller on the CC2640R2L without making any changes.

However, CC2640R2L device support was not added until SIMPLELINK-CC2640R2-SDK v4.20 at which point the AoA solutions had been removed.

    • As a supplier of Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) solutions with a focus on interoperability and broad market adoption, we recommend to transition from proprietary Real Time Localization Toolbox (RTLS) software examples to the new RTLS software examples based on the Bluetooth 5.1 specification. These examples are included in the SimpleLinkTm CC13x2 and CC26x2 software development kit 3.40 and later. For further information please contact your local TI sales representative.

    Regards,
    Ryan
