CC2340: How to control SmartRF

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2340R5

Hi,

I have downloaded SmartRF Studio 8 with support for the CC23xx and executed the installer.

Unable to connect encountered while executing

I have downloaded the host_test example to the XDS110+CC2340R5 board.

What is the problem?

Thanks,

Aries

  • Hi Aries,

    Thank you for reaching out.

For information, SmartRF Studio 8 writes to the device's radio RAM in order to execute the radio operations you want. In other words, there is no need to flash host_test image on the device. With that being said, it should not hurt to have a program flashed on the device.

Could you please verify all the signals are properly connected to the device? Could you consider providing a picture showing your setup?

I have reached out to the experts of this tool to get more inputs. Please keep us updated.

    Best regards,

  • hi Aries,

Please make sure CCS is not used.

  • Hi Jerry,

Yes. Make sure CCS is not used.

    My setup:

  • Hi Aries,

Thank you for the details provided.

At the moment, the only way we have managed to reproduce the issue was by having other programs using the LaunchPad's COM ports.

In your video, I see TerraTerm is opened. Could you please make sure to close it? Similarly, if you expect other programs to use a COM port (e.g. Windows command terminal), it could be best to close them. Please also consider rebooting your machine and only open SmartRF Studio 8, so we can completely clear this potential root cause.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Clément & Jerry,

Thanks to local FAE (Jerry) for coming to my office to repreduce this issue.

Use his notebook, about 80% of the same situation. about 20% success can be RF tested.

I don't know the reason. Is it unstable?? Or special testing methods are required?

    Thanks,

    Aries

  • Hi Aries,

Great to see you managed to get these tests run.

This software has gone through limited testing. It is still being improved by the team.So your feedback is valuable.

Could you please specify the Windows OS version you were using?

    Best regards,

  • Hi Clement,

    Mine is Windows 10 Pro.

  • Mine is Windows 7

Use my pc, about 100% of the same situation.

  • Hi,

Thank you. The issue has been reported.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Clément,

Our hardware engineer wants to test RF performance.

So, it looks like only BTool can be used, right ?  XD

    Thanks,

    Aries

  • Hi Aries,

Yes, BTool can be used for RF testing.

Please note the software and hardware you have are not yet totally optimized.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Clément,

We found an interesting thing about smartRF test.

When we tested, we found that most of the NB environment was 60%-100% success, and the desktop environment test 100% failed.

It may be related to the built-in BLE or BLE driver on the NB. Doesn't seem to be related to the OS (win7 & win10).

    For your reference this information.

    Thanks,

    Aries
