CC2650STK: Unable to detect through the mobile phone

Part Number: CC2650STK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LPSTK-CC1352R

Hi Team,

Our customer received CC2650STK sensor tag and have been trying to connect to it and read the sensor values. It connected only once and has failed to connect since then. He have done a reset of sensor tag (pressing both the switches) as well as tried changing the battery.

He have downloaded the simplelink starter as well as sensortag apps from google play and tried them both. He even tried to follow the process available on this video (80) SimpleLink Wi-Fi SensorTag kit - YouTube

The app keeps scanning for devices but fails to detect the sensor tag device. He get a message that 'No sensortag wifi devices were discovered'.

Through his phone, he could see the sensor device as a BLE device, but the app can not scan the BLE devices (the setting seems frozen). Moreover the app freezes multiple times and he has to close and restart the app every few minutes.

Can you suggest how he can connect to the device and receive the readings from the sensors?

I noticed that the error is saying wifi but the phone see's it as a bluetooth device. Not sure if it's related to that.

  • Hi,

CC2650STK is old, much better to use LPSTK-CC1352R. As the CC2650STK is old not sure if it will still work with SimpleLink Starter App. But, it should work with SimpleLink SensorTag App. Also, CC2650STK is not same with SimpleLink Wi-FI Sensortag kit.

  • Hi Art,

Can you try using a third party BLE viewer application such as lightblue or BLE Scanner to test if the phone is able to see the device at all? Could you also share the phone, android version, and simplelink starter app version where this behavior is occurring?

    Best Regards,

    Jan

  • Hi Jan,

Thanks for looking into this. I'll inform customer about this and will inform you as soon as I received the details.

  • Hi Jan,

Thank you. Please find below the details:
    Phone: Samsung A23
    Android version: Android version 13
Sensor Tag version: SenSorTag v5.14.0(Build 100)

The hardware is working fine. The customer could connect to it from the PC using some generic windows apps SensorTag Data acquisition and blessTags Lite available on Microsoft store.

On the phone, the device can be seen on the bluetooth menu but when connecting, there is an error that says that the device connection requires an app. And the app doesnt seem to be working.

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Marvin

  • CC2650STK works with SimpleLink SensorTag App.

  • Hi Marvin,

To connect and view the GATT table on a BLE device from a smartphone device, a dedicated app must be used. You can use a GATT table viewer application such as the SimpleLink Sensor Tag App mentioned by Kel or a third party application such as BLE Scanner or LightBlue. Under most circumstances you wont be able to connect to a BLE device simply by connecting  through the Bluetooth settings page on your smart phone.

    Best Regards,
