CC1352P: ccs crashes upon loading the Project_zero example

This should be use together with version 12.2 of CCS

Please connect both of your boards to to SmartRF Studio (https://www.ti.com/tool/download/SMARTRFTM-STUDIO/2.28.0)

Studio will check the revision of the CC1352P (the HW revision on the LP indicates which LP revision you have, and not which chip revision).

If the boards have an old Chip, you will get an error message telling you that we do not support that version.

As long as your chip  version is supported by SmartRF Studio, it will also be supported by our latest SDK.

Completely reinstalled CCS 12.2, using the last SIMPLELINK-CC13XX-CC26XX-SDK/6.41.00.17, Project_Zero: CCS crashes, no way. Attached screenshot of CCS just before crash. SmartRF Studio does recognize the CC1352P-2 starter kit with no problem

Restarting CCS, this is what happens

Also changed the CCS1352P-2 dev board. The diagnostic tells me to update the XDS110 internal firmware (check the pic) and I did it. But when the download process is running, as previously CodeComposerStudio (Version: 12.2.0.00009 just downloaded and installed) crashes.
Note with simple_peripheral example this does not happen, why?

Project zero is configured to be managed and launched by the BIM or Boot Image Manager example app. This means that this project does not include a CCFG section to configure the device at boot, and therefore requires that the BIM project is programmed into the device first.

The application supports secure OAD i.e. Image authentication needs to be done before executing the newly tranferred image. This is done by the BIM example app. A security header is added to this application image in order to support this.

If BIM is not present in the device internal Flash, the project can usually be started from the IDE but will not be executed after a pin reset. Read more about BIM and OAD in the BLE5-Stack User's Guide.

I' m very sorry, but I think there is a misunderstanding: it is enough clear all about BIM but we are not able to run Project_zero in any way because with this project, just at the end of the binary downloading process, CCS IDE itself does really crash: this is the issue! Instead, with CCS version 10.4.0.00006, we are able to download and run Project_zero on the same SimpleLink dev board and CCS does not crash while it seems to be running as expected. What role does BIM play in the case of CCS crash? So, have we to use only CCS version 10.4.0.00006 (apparently more stable)? Or what is wrong from our side to be fixed to get CCS version 12.2.0.00009 running and not crashing with Project_zero?

Further info: do the following steps to trace what' s happening (this is absolutely deterministic)
1) compile and load BIM to target flash (SimpleLink): it runs. Assuming no application is recognized, the red led will be turned on to signal this condition
2) compile and load Project_zero to flash: at the end of downloading, CCS crashes. Anyway, at this point the Project_zero executable has already been loaded to target flash, so this holds both applications, either BIM (from address 0x56000) and Project_zero (from address 0x0000)
3) relaunch CCS 12
4) modify GEL file in order to not load program (symbols only option) and "reset the target upon debugger connection": this will cause BIM to start
5) load BIM symbols so you can trace BIM: it runs, all ok
6) BIM will detect a valid application (Project_zero) and then jumps to it
7) unload all symbols
8) try to load Project_zero symbols -> CCS crashes

many thanks for your msg. I read and followed all the suggestions in your msg and the situation changes as follows:
- I provided to insert the GEL variable load_symbol=1 in the expression view
- I loaded the executable only and CCS does not crash (the same as it was before)
- after, from the same .out file I tried to load Project_zero' s symbols and while CCS does no longer crash, the symbol table is quite unpopulated and I can only trace with disassembly view.
So this is a small improvement: CCS does no longer crash, but this release remains still quite unusable. Check the pic here attached.
I suppose there is still a bug in CCS 12.2.0.00009 which is not fixed, even if this appears to be a known issue dated at least 8 months ago (check here: e2e.ti.com/.../launchxl-cc26x2r1-ccs-version-12-repeatable-crash-when-running-simplelink-examples)

Hi luigi,

What compiler version are you using? Can you try selecting "TI Clang v2.1.2.LTS" in your project settings, as this issue is fixed as of 2.1.1.
