CC2642R: How to use RF sniffer to capture Data Packets ?

How we can capture BLE pairing packets and Gatt, L2CAP packets ?

Is there any additional setup? I am able to configure RF sniffer using CC2642 and SmartRF Packet sniffer 2 and Wireshark. But only getting ADV_IND, SCAN_REQ and SCAN_RSP packets.
I try to manually disable secure connection in code. Still not getting any Gatt, SMP or L2CAP packets.

Hi Nithin,

Second, I would like to set the right expectations. TI Packet Sniffer monitor only one advertising channel at the time. It means if the devices form a connection on a different channel, you won't be able to get data about this connection.
A fairly straight forward workaround is then to ensure the peripheral device only advertises on one channel (this can be setup using SysConfig in BLE > Broadcaster Configuration > Advertisement Set 1 > Advertisement Parameters 1 > Primary Channel Map. Once done, make sure to verify SmartRF Sniffer scans the same channel (should be 37 by default).

Hi Clement,

That documentation only includes basic setup.
I tried with channel 37 and RF sniffer configured for same. But still only getting packet up to CONNECT_IND. Is there i miss anything?

Hi,

I would recommend verifying the proper PHY is being used. I would also recommend ensuring you are using legacy advertising to form the connection.

Hi Clement,

My software setup is Wireshark-win64-4.0.6 and SmartRF_Packet_Sniffer_2_v1.10.0. From the SmartRF packet sniffer 2 guide it is preferable to use Wireshark version 4.0.x.

I am using CC2640(Simple Central) and CC2642(Simple Peripheral). And i changed advertising channel to channel 37 and advertising set by default legacy with PHY = 1M.

But on Wireshark i got packets upto CONN_IND.
What is missing ?

Hi Clement,

In my knowledge I am not using any filter. I know we can apply filter in Wireshark side. And i didn't use that. All software are in their default settings.

At the moment I am not able to identify the issue you are experiencing.

I encourage you to consider using other tools, such as the Bluetooth sniffers provided by Elisys or Frontline.
