CC2340R5 : Not working at high temperature

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2340R5, SYSCONFIG

Hi ,

We are facing issue at high temperature , we observed that cc2340r5 working ok up to 50 deg C. When temperature reach above 55 deg c , Stop data received on mobile Phone .

After cooling of device , again working ok at 54 deg c temperature .

  • Hi,

From what I understand from your post is that the CC2340R5 is connected to the phone and performing data transfers. I assume it is Bluetooth LE, right?

If so, what does exactly happen when the issue surfaces? Is the CC2340R5 disconnected from the phone or just the data stream stops sending data? Since the issue can have multiple root causes that prevent an accurate assessment, I have a few questions and comments.

If it is only the data stream failing, do you have an external device such as a sensor connected to the CC2340R5 to generate the data? This helps isolate the root cause of the problem, which could be between the CC2340R5 and the external device.

If the connection is still maintained but the data is corrupt, a Bluetooth sniffer can be helpful to capture the data transfers.

You could also try to use a different transfer speed to see if the connection becomes more robust (such as LE Coded S=2 or S=8, or even 1Mbps if you are currently using 2Mbps).

At last, are you running this system using our Launchpad or your own custom design?

We perform functional characterization of our devices across their temperature range, therefore the root cause is probably at system-level.

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

  • Hi  ,

Our application , It will transfer non connectable Bluetooth LE frame , At receiver side receiver just receive data and shows data in debug screen .

Data transfer rate set in sys config file Primary PHY is 1 Mbps and Secondary PHY is 1 Mbps .

At normal temperature data transmission works properly , but if temperature reach above 55 deg c , not seen any data on receiver .

    below are our initial observations
    • Working fine in normal condition at room temperature ,
    • But we observed that when temperature goes above 50 deg C, BLE transmission stops working.
    • When we masked the crystal with thermal tape, the device worked till 103 deg C
    • Then we added load capacitance (C2 and C3) of 8pF  : Device worked till 80 deg C

Below are the circuit details  and currently C2 and C3 are kept DNP

any option in sys config file to set load capacitance value ??

  • Hi ,

In datasheet mentioned that it is possible to set load capacitance value of 48 MHZ crystal using CCFG file

How to change the value ?? I am unable to find setting in config file .

  • Hi,

Thanks for the additional details. On Sysconfig you can configure the capacitor load at the Device Configuration:

This will modify the values of the APIs CKMDSetInitialCapTrim() and CKMDSetTargetCapTrim(), which are inside the auto-generated file <ti_drivers_config.c> as shown above.

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

P.S. Please apologize; I accidentally clicked on the Ti Thinks Resolved in your last post.

  • Hi ,

    Thanks you for your support

  • Hi ,

If I set value of HFXT Cap Array Q1 value - 0x31 and  HFXT Cap Array Q2 value - 0x31  , what is meaning of this value ?? any specific calculation happen behind this

    Thanks and Regards ,

  • Hi Pooja,

The nominal capacitance value for each code is shown below. Please also keep in mind that your chosen crystal should have a worst case frequency tolerance stack-up of less than 50ppm (including aging and temperature effects). See https://www.ti.com/lit/an/swra495j/swra495j.pdf for information on crystals and a table with the crystals we have evaluated.
