CC2642R: VDDR Brown Out

Part Number: CC2642R

Hey team,

I have a customer who is concerned about the brown-out on the CC2642R. The end-equipment is for a pager system (presumably). His full message is below

"We are however seeing lots of VDDR brown outs. I am checking the VDDR line from the DCDC_SW to see if it dips or whether we have a soldering issue on the VDDR pin.

However I can not find anywhere in the data at what level the brown out, VDDR_LOSS, happens on the nominal 1.68V VDDR rail, please can you find this out for me? Thanks"

Thanks in advance!

Marco

  • Hi Marco,

VDDR_LOSS really should be quite a rare occurrence. Can you share the schematic for the DCDC and VDDR rails? Is there proper decoupling and are the recommended component values being used? Please direct the customer to https://www.ti.com/tool/SIMPLELINK-2-4GHZ-DESIGN-REVIEWS so we can do a design review.

As for the brownout detect level I don't have the exact value where it's tripped, there are likely a couple of different levels since VDDR also supports a boost mode that goes up to 1.95 V. So I think it's better to try to diagnose the underlying problem the customer is seeing. As long as everything is laid out correctly and with proper values the system won't have these sorts of issues.

  • Jake,

There was a follow-up in the email thread I have with the customer that I've now looped you in on. I'd really appreciate if you could continue helping out in that thread. Thanks!

    Marco
