CC2640: Is the latest SDK supports GLS 1.0.1 ?

Part Number: CC2640
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , CC2340R5

Hello,

The withdrawal date of the GLS 1.0 spec is 2025-02-01.

We need to apply the GLS 1.0.1 spec for our future products for SIG Certification.

Could you check the stacks of the below SDKs support the GLS 1.0.1 or not?

- ble_sdk_2_02_07_06 for CC2640

- simplelink_cc2640r2_sdk_5_30_00_03 for CC2640R2F (blestack not ble5stack)

Thanks,

Calvin

  • Hi Calvin,

Thank you for reaching out. We will take a look at your provided query and get back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, I would recommend referencing How to Certify Your Bluetooth Product as it contains valuable information regarding the certification process and guidelines.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Calvin,

The implementation of the Glucose service (GLS) on the CC2640R2 device meets the GLS 1.0 specifications. It has not been tested against the GLS 1.0.1 specifications.

Based on the review I have run, no change or only limited changes should be required to satisfy to the GLS 1.0.1 specifications.

I recommend you review the differences between the specifications of the GLS 1.0 and 1.0.1 and implement the deltas. If needed, the Bluetooth SIG offers a convenient "Changes since previous version" document available here: https://www.bluetooth.com/specifications/specs/glucose-service-1-0-1/ (requires an account at the Bluetooth SIG).
As mentioned before the changes are fairly limited and, based on my understanding, assuming the supported features of the device does not change during its lifetime no specific change should be required.

Alternatively, you could consider migrating to the new CC2340R5 device. I understand hardware migration will require more efforts than a simple code update, but in the long run, designing your system around the CC2340R5 should save you some costs.

    I hope this will help,

    Best regards,

  • Hi,

Just to be clear, the CC2340R5 device meets the GLS 1.0.1 specifications, right?

    Thanks,

    Calvin

  • Hi Calvin,

Correct, at the hardware level, I don't see anything breaking the GLS 1.0.1 specifications.

    Best regards,

  • Could you check the ble stack of the CC2340R5 supports indicate property for the Glucose Feature characteristic?

E16245 : The Indicate property shall be supported for the Glucose Feature characteristic if the value of the Glucose Feature characteristic can change over the lifetime of the device, otherwise Excluded for this service.

My concern is that SIG certification is possible with CC2340R5 product for GLS 1.0.1.

    Thanks,

    Calvin

  • Hi Calvin,

The GLS profile on CC2340R5 supports indicate property for the Glucose Feature characteristic.

To be more specific on my previous answer

Correct, at the hardware level, I don't see anything breaking the GLS 1.0.1 specifications.

There are definitely no hardware level limitation for GLS 1.0.1 on CC2340R5

    Best regards,
