Is there a document for how to run BLE on the CC2340R5 without a 32khz crystal, like there is for the CC2640? Or can SWRA499C be used a guide for the CC2340R5? Reference SWRA499C.

Hi Cole,
Thank you for reaching out.
May I kindly ask how you are planning to configure the system? Here are some of the questions I need your inputs on:
- Which Bluetooth LE role the CC2340R5 will have (peripheral, broadcaster, central, scanner)? Will the device establish some Bluetooth connections?
- What is the temperature range you are aiming for? What is the temperature change per minute you are aiming for?
Best regards,
Hello Clément,
1. Role - Broadcaster
2. Sometimes there will be Bluetooth connections, and we intend to support OAD on this device
3. Temperature range: -40C~60C
4. Temperature change per minute: probably not more than 1C per minute
Hello Cole,
Characterization for crystal-less operations is still on-going. I cannot share the expected timeline on a public forum.
In general,
- pure broadcasters implementations don't require a crystal as Low Frequency Clock Source.
- central implementations absolutely require a crystal as Low Frequency Clock Source.
- peripheral implementations may or may not require a crystal as Low Frequency Clock Source depending on temperature range, temperature change, and other factors. The characterization work mentioned before should determine the limits of crystal-less operation and provide the proper configuration to implement it.
Best regards,
