LP-CC2652RB: LE Secure Connections Only Mode

Part Number: LP-CC2652RB
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSCONFIG

Hi,

I and my team developing Bluetooth Low Energy product using LP-CC2652RB. In TI Documentation, the definition for LE Security Mode 1 level 4 is,

"Level 4: Authenticated LE Secure Connections pairing with encryption using Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman P-256 (ECDH) and AES-CCM encryption"

But, In the core specification v5.2,

"Authenticated LE Secure Connections pairing with encryption using a 128-bit strength encryption key"

So the difference is, in TI documentation, they did not mentioned key size as 128-bit. What is the key size enforced for LP-CC2652RB during LE Secure Connections Only Mode? Could anyone help on this?

My development setup:

IDE: Code Composer Studio

SDK: SimpleLink CC13xx CC26xx SDK

Bluetooth Stack: BLE5-Stack

RTOS: TI-RTOS7

Thanks!

  • Hello,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Based on my understanding, the size enforced during LE Secure Connections Only Mode is 16 bytes. You can look for Local Long Term Key (LTK) inside "GAP Bond Manager and LE Secure Connections" which stores the peer device’s encryption information. The Size of the Long Term Key (LTK) used for pairing is 16 bytes. To verify this in a practical manner, you can import a project from the SDK, such as simple_peripheral for example into CCS, open the SysConfig file and look for BLE --> Bond Manager --> Secure Connection --> and select "Only". You will notice that the "Long Term Key (LTK) size is setup to 16.

    Hope it helps.

    David.
