Hi Team,

is it possible to use CC2340 in a star network configuration? Do we have any examples that highlight this?

The “master” will be always powered but all the other nodes will be battery powered. The plan is to have 1 master (maybe 2-3 if possible) and many nodes ( it could be 100 or maybe more) so BLE might not work.

Would you recommend Sub-1GHz here?

    Hi Stefan,

    I can think about the following options

    • Option 1 - Based on Bluetooth LE connections
      Battery powered devices (CC2340R2) are set as Bluetooth LE peripherals. Central device(s) should be CC2674 or CC2652R7. We have a demo where each central can maintain 32 connections in parallel. Assuming you don't need devices to be always connected, you can consider having the connections dynamically established / terminated.
      This option allows to benefit from the Bluetooth LE connections (2-way data, multiple PHYs, encryption, privacy, data loss handling, and others) for "free".

    • Option 2 - Based on Bluetooth LE advertisements
      Battery powered devices are set as advertisers. Scanner(s) can be CC2340R2. Scanners continuously scan for the packets sent by the advertisers.
      This option only allow data transfer from the advertisers to the scanners. This option does NOT offer natively encryption, data loss handling, privacy,  etc.

    • Option 4 - Based on Zigbee
      Note that this option does not offer a star network but a mesh network

    Sub-1 GHz based protocols can be considered as well in case requirements for range justify it.
