LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2: About the Carrier frequency offset and drift, significantly exceeding the acceptable limits.

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640R2F

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

We are using TI CC2640R2F EVM to verify the test environment for testing RF performance.

Sheiding box and Litepoint IQxel are also prepared for testing.

We use smart-rf studio to control CC2640R2F for sending out  BLE packet. (The version of Smart RF studio7 : 2.31.0)

But IQXEL shows that TI EVM failed to meet the BT SIG specifications for Carrier frequency offset and drift, significantly exceeding the acceptable limits.

Please help to check this issue and let us know what steps we can take to resolve it.

Thanks.

  • Hi,

This issue has been reported before and was shown to be caused by the software used for certification.

I'll ask the expert who worked on the same to comment after he comes back to the office.

    Best regards,

  • Hi,

    Got it. Thanks.

  • Hi Clément,

May I know if older version than Smart RF studio 2.31.0 also has this issue?

  • Hi Mike,

Thank you for asking this follow-up question, this made me realize you may have some inconsistencies in the way you are running the test.

We recommend to flash the host_test code on the device and use HCI commands (sent by BTool or other tools) to set the device in Tx mode.

Please let me know if you need further details.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Clément,

I have proivide training for my customer to flash host_test code on the device and use HCI commands (sent by BTool) to set the device in Tx mode.

I will contact my customer to run RF test by HCI command.

    Thanks for your promptly reply.

  • Hi Clément,

The IQxel is unable to parse the carrier frequency drift and offset using BTool.

Can you help to provide comments why this might be happening?

Please also help to provide the related HCI commands for my customer when using BTOOL.

  • Hi Mike,

To run the  Carrier frequency offset and drift test, the device should be set to transmit DTM packets with the PHY wanted, on the channel selected with the maximum packet length supported and the payload 10101010.

To run the test on the 1M PHY, leverage the HCI_LE_TransmitterTest command, with the proper channel, testDataLength and testData.

To run the test on the other PHYs (only applicable to the ble5stack as the blestack does not support other PHYs), leverage the command HCI_LE_EnhancedTransmitterTest, with the proper channel, testDataLength, DtmPktPattern and txPhy.

    I hope this will help,

    Best regards,
