CC2640R2F: CC2640R2F standby current consumption (Simple_Peripheral)

Part Number: CC2640R2F

Tool/software:

I am using CC2640r2f LAUNCHXL and I am running Simpleperipheral example project while turning off the uart (Display_Print) but keeping the advertisment enabled as it is. The current consumption after 5 sec ( when it is in standby mode) is 70 uA. in the datasheet it says that it should be 1.1uA. Any idea why? and what I should do to get the current down to 1.1uA?

  • Hi,

    Thank you for reaching out.

Could you please describe the way you run power measurements?
Among others, can you confirm you are using a power analyzer, ensuring the debug interface is closed, etc.?
If possible, please provide power traces showing the power consumption of the device.

    Best regards,

  • Hey Clément,

Thank you for your answer. Regarding the power measurements, I take off all jumbers out, placing the power jumper to "external power" then supply the board from 3V3 and GND using 2 AA batteries in series with the AVO meter i have which can measure the current well. I already did the same thing to measure the current consumption while the MCU in shutdown mode and I was able to measure 0.1 uA as the datasheet stated.

I am wondering if the 70uA that I am measuring in the stand by mode ( instead of 1uA) is because of that the MCU still advertising.

  • Hi,

The standby current is not steady not like shutdown current. So, your multimeter is not able to measure standby current. You need to use DC power analyzer to see the current waveform.

But, if you are able to measure 0.1 uA shutdown current that means you have configured your hardware for low power consumption.

  • Hey Markel,

Thank you for your response. I checked a Ti file " Measuring CC13xx and CC26xx current consumption (Rev. D )" in this link "">www.ti.com/.../swra478d.pdf and I found that the AVG current is 880 nA and the RMS (Avometer measured) is 72.901uA. you can see it also in the pic below. Thank you again.

    Kind Regard,
    Uthman
