CC2340R5: CC2340R5 Antenna source matching network query

Part Number: CC2340R5

Tool/software:

Hello

In CC2340R5, regarding the antenna section a source matching antenna network is recommended. Is this recommended for just matching CC2340R5's output to 50 ohms or does it act like a filter as well.

Does CC2340R5 has an internal filter as well?

PFA picture for your reference.

Thanks and Regards

  • Rifa,

The CC2340R5 requires an external filter that is used by our reference design. This filter is comprised of L33, C33 and C34 as shown in your screenshot.

The filter reduces the harmonic content of the output of the PA and is closely matched to 50Ω of impedance.

Since the antenna impedance can show a wide variability depending on factors other than its design, a matching network is also required. Among the factors that can affect antenna performance and impedance are variations on the substrate material, track and copper thickness tolerances, product enclosure, proximity with other elements such as power supplies, connectors, etc. That is why our reference designs and application notes such as CC13xx/CC26xx Hardware Configuration and PCB Design Considerations (SWRA640) and Antenna Selection Guide (SWRA161)

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael
