CC2650STK: Product status and possible more recent alternatives

Part Number: CC2650STK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LPSTK-CC1352R, CC2650

Tool/software:

Hi, I'd like to have an update about the production status of the CC2650STK Sensor Tag:
https://www.ti.com/tool/CC2650STK

We used this product a few years ago for vibration monitoring over BT/ZigBee and we developed an additonal custom board for it to be able to read temperatures from two remote PT100 probes.

Is this still considered an active product by Texas? If we planned to still integrate it in our products based on clients' requests, how many years does Texas plan to continue to manufacture it?

Since it's now quite an old product, are there similar more recent alternatives from Texas that we could consider for the same purpose? That is vibration monitoring, support to temperature readings from remote probes and wireless data trasmission using BLE? Something more recent with AI capabilities to do predictive maintence would be welcome.

Thank you for the support.

Best Regards

  • Hi Frank,

I recommend the LPSTK-CC1352R as a predecessor successor to the CC2650STK which has similar functionality and includes SimpleLink F2 SDK support that continues to be updated yearly.  Here is the out-of-box experience SimpleLink Academy Lab.  TI does not include any AI capabilities for predictive maintenance at the moment.

  • Hi Ryan,

thank you for the answer but what about the status of the CC2650STK? Should we consider it now obsolete and unsupported so ultimately not recommended to be included in other projects/products?

The  LPSTK-CC1352R  is a predecessor to the CC2650STK so it should be even older but it's still recommended to be used for our purposes (vibration and temperature monitoring)?
Which is the remaining lifespan of the product that Texas can guarantee? How long it's going to stay in production?

    Thanks!

  • I meant to say that the LPSTK-CC1352R is a successor to the CC2650STK and have modified my previous E2E response accordingly.  Sorry about that!

There should be a distinction made between hardware production obsoletion and software development discontinuation. The CC2650 and CC2650STK are still active, however the limited flash and RAM on this product leads to difficulty with continuing to improve upon its software offerings.  This is why the software is discontinued in favor of the SimpleLink F2 SDK and associated devices (CC13X2 / CC26X2).  All CC2650 software resources are still available online, but it will be more difficult to get TI support with these.  TI devices have long shelf lives so I do not expect the CC2650 part itself to be obsoleted any time soon, however I cannot guarantee for how long the CC2650STK will be continue to be sold.

    Regards,
    Ryan

  • Ok Ryan thank you, now it's clear.
