CC2640R2F: Error 242 when trying to program a custom board

Part Number: CC2640R2F

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Good day! I am currently facing an issue while trying to program my custom board, which features a CC2640R2F, using the XDS110 DEBUG PROBE. I have two of these probes—one is working fine, but the other encounters the following error when attempting to connect to the custom board.

The XDS110 that is giving this error can still be updated to the latest software, but it cannot connect to the target. Could something inside the XDS110 be broken? What can I do to fix it? They are quite expensive, and it would be a shame if it broke this quickly.

  • Hi Sjoerd,

The most common causes for this error are missing/misconfigured jumpers, or bad connection(s).

To narrow down the issue, do you have another XDS110 debugger to rule it out?

    Best regards,

    Bun

  • I have another XDS110 debugger, and it works perfectly. However, the one causing this error stopped working after some time, even though it used to work fine in the past. Could a component inside the XDS110 have broken and caused this issue?

  • Hi Sjoerd,

I wouldn't necessarily suspect a single component going bad on the XDS110. Do you have a LaunchPad or other other known good device to program to verify that it's the XDS110 that has the issue? Possibly is your design marginal in some way that would allow one programmer to work and not another? Does the reset line have the associated resistor and capacitor as shown in our reference designs? Have you tried with different cables? Verified that there's no dame to the connector? If you do end up needing to replace this XDS110 there is an alternative design https://www.ti.com/tool/LP-XDS110 that is designed to be connected to certain types of LaunchPad reference designs but would also work stand alone.

    BR,

    Jake
