CC2340R5: Dealing with rising temperatures

Part Number: CC2340R5

Tool/software:

Hello.

I am using CC2340R5.

During the evaluation, we encountered an issue where the microcontroller was overheating and was unable to achieve its intended performance.

We have just started analyzing it and do not yet know the specific cause.
I think that starting up the CC2340 or using the CC2340's Bluetooth stack may be affecting the heat generation.

Sorry for the general question, but I would like to know about heat prevention methods, both in terms of hardware and software.
I looked at the Thermal Resistance Characteristics on the datasheet but couldn't figure out what it does.

Thanks.

  • Hello,

Thank you for reaching out! I have a few questions regarding this issue:

    • Are you using a launchpad or custom hardware?
    • If you're not using a launchpad, do you see the same overheating issues with a launchpad?
    • Which BLE example are you using, and what modifications have been made?
    • When you say "unable to achieve its intended performance", does that mean the app crashes or does it hang on a forever loop or just don't perform it's task?
    • Could you provide specific temperature readings?

Please provide an answer to these questions, and we'll hopefully be able to pinpoint the problem!

    Best Regards,

    Tarek
