CC2340R5: New chip cannot download FW by CCS, need to use Uniflash to program first

Part Number: CC2340R5
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH,

Tool/software:

Hi team,

My customer is developing CC2340R52. They find on their PCB, for new CC2340R52 (no FW inside), CC2340R52 cannot download by CCS. They need to flash by Uniflash first, then they can use CCS to download FW to CC2340R52.

Please help clarify why they need to use Uniflash first ?

  • Hi Jerry,

I assume they are using the same XDS110 hardware to flash these devices?  This behavior could be related to the CC23xx_CC27xx_FLASH_LIBRARY_VERSION.  What version of Uniflash, CCS and F3 SDK is the customer using?  What version of CC23xx_CC27xx_FLASH_LIBRARY_VERSION is shown for each tool when they attempt to program the device?

    Regards,
    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,

    As below. Thank you.

    UniFlash V9.1.0.5175
    CCS V20.0.0
    F3 SDK V8.10.1.2

  • Thank you for providing this information.  Please observe in the Release Note dependencies for this SimpleLink F3 SDK that either CCS Eclipse 12.7.0 or CCS Theia 1.4.0 is supported, but not CCS v20.  They could consider downgrading CCS versions or upgrading the F3 SDK to v8.40 and report whether this affect behavior.

What operating system are they using?  What error are they seeing in CCS?  I've not heard of any similar reports that CCS v20 is not able to program blank CC2340R5 devices.

    Regards,
    Ryan
