CC2340R5: readonly data memory size

Hi,

i am using basic ble example of simplelink_lowpower_f3_sdk_7_40_00_64 and it generates 205'215 bytes of readonly code memory and 19'676 bytes of readonly data memory and when i use basic ble example of simplelink_lowpower_f3_sdk_8_40_02_01 it generates 200'717 bytes of readonly code memory and 279'559 bytes of readonly data memory, why this much difference in data memory ? i am using peripheral role in both.

Thank you for reaching out. Can you share which compiler version you are using? Can you try the 9.10 SDK with CCS 20 to see which numbers you get?

Hi,

Thank you for your response Jan. I am using IAR 9.60.3. I compiled the same sdk in CCS and it is genarating 170kb .text and 16kb .rodata but same sdk in IAR 9.60.3 generating around 280kb of .rodata either sdk 9_10_00_83 or sdk_8_40_02_01 cant understand what is issue with IAR 9.60.3

Hi Prince,

Understood. Thank you for sharing the results. Can you check what optimization levels you are using on IAR vs CCS? IAR and CCS also use different compilers so that may also explain some difference in size, but I agree this seems larger than expected.

optimization lavel is HIGH in both,and yes there is much difference of 16 k to 280k

Hi Prince,

Understood. Can you confirm the CCS version you are using? When using SDK 9.10, CCS 20 should be used for development.

Hi Prince,

Can you recompile the project with CCS 20 instead? The compilers used between CCS 12 and CCS20 are different versions of the TI Clang compiler.

HI,

i have commented the following lines in .icf file now the .rodata size is reduced to 16kb

define region LOG_DATA = mem:[from 0x90000000 to 0x9003FFFF];
define region LOG_PTR = mem:[from 0x94000008 to 0x94040007];
define block LOG_DATA with size = 0x40000 { readonly section .log_data };
define block LOG_PTR with size = 0x40000 { readonly section .log_ptr* };
".log_data": place noload in LOG_DATA { block LOG_DATA };
".log_ptr": place noload in LOG_PTR { block LOG_PTR };
