LP-EM-CC2745R10-Q1: Problem using Bluetooth examples like Channel Sounding and Host Test example

Part Number: LP-EM-CC2745R10-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH

Tool/software:

I found in the simplelink-lowpower-f3-sdk (Version: 9.10.00.83) the Bluetooth channel sounding example and tried testing it with two LP-EM-CC2745R10-Q1 boards.
But there is a problem with one of the two eval boards. I flashed it with the key/car node example and nothing happens.
Another test was to try the host_test example in combination with the BTOOL from the tools folder. I always get a connection timeout.
So I tried to use the UART echo example to check the UART mode of the device. It works fine.
I also used the SmartRF Studio to check the RF mode via RX/TX connections. I switched the roles on the two boards and they work as desired.
I do not know, why the board should not work with the BLE examples, because the RX/TX connection and the UART itself works.
I also looked for a full erase in the UNIFLASH tool to make sure the memory is completely wiped, but the button is not present anymore in the V9.1.
Did I miss something, when I flash the device?
  • Hello,

Thank you for reaching out and apologies for the delay! We recently released the 9.11 SDK, which included some channel sounding fixes. Could you try the new SDK out and let me know if the problem persists?

Also, are all BLE examples not working, or only the car node example?

    Best Regards,

    Tarek D

  • Hi Tarek D,

CCS 20.2 does not show the new SDK, so I had to install it via the installer. Also the new SDK is not available in the dev.ti.com Resource Explorer.

Nevertheless, the problem persists on the car/key node and the host_test example from the new SDK 9.11. I only tested the three mentioned BLE examples.

I also checked the RF output via the SMA connector using the key node example and a connected RF detector on the not working eval board. It seems that the RF out is not active and hence the advertising mode is not enabled on this device. If I use the other working eval board, I see a RF signal which leads to an active advertising.

  • Hi Benedikt,

Understood. Please install the SDK via the installer present in the following link. Lets start by building and flashing the standard basic_ble project. Can you import the project into your workspace, compile it and flash it onto the device? Afterwards, please open a UART console connected to the device, reset the device a few times and you should see the basic_ble two-button menu.

  • Hi Jan,

I already installed the SDK 9.11 and used it to test the car/key node and the host_test example. Now, I tested the basic_ble project you mentioned. There is no output on the terminal it stays blank. I think the device is kind of broken.

Imported the basic_ble example in CCS 20.2, compiled it and flashed it onto the device

    Installed Package

  • Hi Benedikt,

if one board works with the examples but the other one fails it looks like a HW issue to me. As the responsible FAE is out of office until next week I wonder if you can wait or do I need to step in and check how we can get you a second board asap?

    Regards, Frank

  • Hi Frank,

thank you for your offer. I can wait until my responsible FAE is back in the office.

    Best Regards,

      Benedikt

  • Hi Benedikt,

My apologies for the delay. Thank you for sharing the latest details. Can you share more details regarding the problematic board? Specifically, can you share the rev number of the LP and the markings on the IC itself? Can you use uniflash to check what the version of the HSM is on the device?

    Best Regards,

    Jan

  • Hi Jan,

I checked the HSM info via uniflash and got following message:

HSM failed to boot. Make sure to program a valid HSM image under the "HSM Image" section.

    The device info shows:

    the BLE address:

    BLE ID Address: 0x78CD555B89A8

    the IC and LP markings:
    LP-EM-CC2745R10-Q1
    Bom Rev: C

    2453

    Best Regards,
      Benedikt
  • Hi Jan,

thank you for the hint with the HSM image.

I flashed the HSM image again. Now the MCU is working with the basic_ble example as expected.

    Best Regards,

      Benedikt
  • Hi Benedikt,

Glad to hear you were able to resolve the error! Thank you for sharing how you resolved it!

    Best Regards,

    Jan
