CC2340R5: Radio Access

Part Number: CC2340R5

Tool/software:

Hi,

My customer is potentially evaluating this part as an option to use for the future. In general, does TI provide documentation for low level radio register access, or simply present the radio as a high level black box to the firmware?

They are looking for a way to modulate the transmitted carrier.

  • Hi Abigail,

The following TI Proprietary RF SimpleLink Academy highlights how two CC2340R5 LaunchPads can be connected to transmit and recieve over a proprietary RF protocol:

     SmartRF Studio 8 Basic RX_TX

Using the rfCarrierWave example, one can edit the rfCarrierWave project to modulate the carrier wave.

Following these steps would be a good start to modulating the carrier wave.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Regards,

    Nico G

  • Thank you for the resources. Is that the extent of documentation we have available for the radio register access?

Also my customer was concerned about what looks like a crossover connection between the output of the PA and the LNA input prior to the balun, as it would make the device unsuitable for our use case. Are you able to comment on whether this would be a concern?

  • Hi Abigail,

We have additional documentation on the Radio Control Layer here: Radio Control Layer (RCL): Radio Control Layer (RCL) This is useful for configuring RCL commands.

Could you be more specific on what you mean by crossover connection? Do you mean the wire highlighted in the image attached below of the CC2340R Family Block Diagram?

There is a switch internal to the radio that controls whether the device is in transmit or receive mode, both of which happen on the same wire, however, these do not occur simultaneously.
