Hi,

I would like the ability to wirelessly flash a new software .out file on a LaunchXL-F28379D. The board I have selected for this application is the LP-EM-CC2340R5.

The questions I have for this are:

1. Which configuration would be better to implement a software update for the LaunchPad:

a)LaunchXL-F28379D wired to CC2340R5 kit-----BLE-----> CC2340R5 UART wired to LaunchXL-F28379D (using example: data_stream_UART_over_BLE_LP_EM_CC2340R5_freertos_ticlang)

b)LaunchXL-F28379D wired to CC2340R5 kit-----BLE (Off-chip OAD) -----> CC2340R5 SPI wired to LaunchXL-F28379D (Serial Bootloader)

2. Is there a recommended board or software for this application?

Thank you for reaching out. If your plan is to update LAUNCHXL-F28379D, then I would suggest going with option 1 and sending the image over the air. I would recommend performing CRC checks on the received image to ensure stability before flashing the image.

The datastream uart example is likely the best example to use for this as it acts as a UART bridge.

I have 2 additional questions:

1. For the option 1 OAD, are there any bootloader settings I would need to implement on the receiving F28379D LaunchPad.

2. Does the F29H85X-SOM-EVM have the OAD feature built-in and will not need a CC2340R5 for wireless flashing?

Yes, you would want to use the SCI bootloader to help achieve option 1. There is example code in C2000Ware demonstrating how to program the on-chip flash using the SCI bootloader. Please refer to the serial flash programming guide for more details.

F29H85x devices do not have the OAD feature built-in. You can see the F29H85x bootloader options in Section 4.7.6.2 of the TRM.

Firmware-Over-The-Air (FOTA) is essentially a Live Firmware Update (LFU) with reset. F29H85x devices do not support on-chip wireless flashing capabilities.

I am using CCSv12.8.1 with simplelink_lowpower_f3_sdk_8_10_01_02 to run the basic_ble_LP_EM_CC2340R5_freetos_ticlang example and observe the following error:

Product com.ti.SIMPLELINK_LOWPOWER_F3_SDK v0.0 is not currently installed and no compatible version is available. Please install this product or a compatible version.

Please advise.

Hi,

The 8.10 SDK is outdated at this time. Please use the latest SDK as shown in the following link:

https://www.ti.com/tool/download/SIMPLELINK-LOWPOWER-F3-SDK/9.11.00.18

Also, ensure the wireless connectivity package was installed with CCS 12.8. You may install it after the fact by running the CCS installer again and selecting the Wireless Connectivity component.

Hi,

Thank you for your prompt response.

I tried using the 8.10 SDK as the example codes listed in

https://dev.ti.com/tirex/content/simplelink_academy_for_cc23xx_8_40_01_00/_build_simplelink_academy_for_cc23xx_8_40_01_00/source/cc2340rx_environment_setup.html were not available in the 9.11 version.

The only examples I see on the 9.11 are:

Please advise for BLE examples using the above tutorial, what is the best way forward? Thank you.

Hi,

It seems that the SDK was not installed properly. There should be a BLE folder. Did you download the SDK using the link provided and allowed the installation to complete? Can you try uninstalling and reinstalling it?
