CC2745R10-Q1: Relationship Between TQI and TI Algorithm Switching on CC2745R10-Q1 for Bluetooth Channel Sounding

Hello TI Support Team,

During our CC2745R10-Q1 CS testing, we noticed a parameter called Tone Quality Indicator (TQI) in the raw data, which appears to range from 0–255, with lower values indicating better quality based on our observations.

Could you help clarify how TI defines the threshold for algorithm switching, like Adaptive/MUSIC/NN as shown in the diagram below?

Additionally, could you also clarify the criteria TI uses to classify signal quality (e.g., good, medium, or poor)? For example: TQI < 100 (good), 101–150 (medium), >151 (poor).

    I am currently working on a thread with the exact question already. I am going to provide an answer here though. The Adaptive algorithm does not use TQI to switch the algorithms anymore. TI will not disclose the use of TQI at the moment. Currently we are treating the algorithm as a black box.

  • Thank you — I understand that TI’s algorithm is a black box and cannot be disclosed. However, could you share any insights into the fundamental concept or criteria behind TQI? Alternatively, is there any information related to TQI that can be referenced from the Bluetooth SIG specification? Or could you also clarify how TI’s IC (CC2745R10-Q1) generates this TQI value?

    Let me discuss with the team. TI has an equation that we use, but I need to confirm if its an internal equation or a specification defined equation. I will provide a response Wednesday (12/3).

    The calculation of the TQI is not spec defined. The spec only defines that if a device can compute TQI, then they should use the values below: 

    The calculation to obtain TQI is not spec defined. The calculation can vary from vendor to vendor. The calculation that TI uses has been shared with Bluetooth SIG, and if you are a Bluetooth SIG member you can find that information. I will not mention the calculation on E2E.
