DLPC4420AEVM: Connection issue on DLPC4420AEVM // SO# 513588

Hi TI team, 

Good day!

 

Our customer purchased a Part# DLPC4420AEVM . They feedback that had tested on this board in both USB connection and HDMI display, but it cannot connect to computer after switching on and nor can it display HDMI input with the V-by-One board connected.

They have been troubleshooting for more than 1 week and this problem still exists., even tried another DLP660TEEVM board it still has the same problem.

Kindly review and advise whether this issue is considered as defective part? If not, could you explain or provide the criteria or relevant supporting documents for customer reference.

And customers have further inquiry below, please review and advise on it.

They have this user guide already and have been following its instructions all the time. They have also changed cables but the problem still exists. The symptoms are below:

  1. Connect J31 jumper and connect USB to computer, flash splash image using GUI, this is perfectly fine with J31 jumper installed.
  2. Power off and remove J31, 12V power on and connect USB first then flip switch to on. Computer can detect USB when splash image is showing and D5 is blinking, but once D5 stops blinking, USB connection immediately disappears.
  3. Power off and connect V-by-One board, connect HDMI cable to computer, power on again. USB connection still has the same problem, and HDMI is not showing.

    Apologize for delay in response.

    To further understand cause of the problem, UART debug log is required from both Primary and Secondary controller.

    Referring to below thread  RE: DLPC4420AEVM: DLPC4420AEVM+DLP780TE USB device appears for a few seconds and allows me to communicate with the DMD via the DLPC44xx GUI 

    To get UART debug, you will need:

    1. An RS232-to-USB cable to connect to your PC. This is how we read back debug logs on many of our EVMs.

    2. The debug log is sent through serial port using a baud of 115200. I would recommend using the TeraTerm application but many are available.

    Meanwhile, can you please check the LEDs on the DLPC4420AEVM and provide the status of the LEDs?

    Our customer had purchased another new DLPC4420AEVM and this is their finding below, please review and advise on it.

    Part details: Supplier PO# 029-C1173 // Qty: 1pc // COO: US // Date code: 2346 // Lot code: 3014615SVT 

    They initialized the recently delivered new DLPC4420AEVM. They are running into the following problems:

    1. After uploading splash file following the user guide, DLP660TEEVM shows splash image successfully, but USB is only connected during splash image showing/D5 blinking, after D5 stops blinking, USB connection immediately disconnects.
    2. We connect Vx1 board and HDMI cable to computer, but after power on my computer cannot detect the DLPC at all, and nothing is showing on DMD.

    This DLPC is completely new, they only did the steps following user guide, but they are sure there’s something missing. Kindly help to check which are the exact steps to connect HDMI.

    Some follow ups today:

    1. For the new DLPC, we are facing the exact same problem described in technical team’s replied thread. We tried disconnected DMD and Vx1 from DLPC and connected only DLPC to computer, USB was stable all the time and D5 was constantly blinking. Whenever we connected DMD the same USB disconnection problem occurred: after power on D6 shows red then disappears, and D5 blinks in green while splash image appears, USB connects at this point; D5 blinks for a few seconds and disappears together with splash image, USB fails at the same time.

    2. We don’t have RS232 cable and need some more time to order. Meanwhile, please send us the latest Flash_DLPC4420_DLP660TE_p66_TRP_4KUHD_S610_LED.img file, as in the thread poster mentioned after they received the newest image file from TI the board can connect USB stably.

    3.  For the old faulty DLPC, same we need some time to order RS232 cable.

    We will try to setup a similar hardware on our side and try to reproduce this issue to debug this.
    Will give you an update and the latest firmware that you requested for by Monday.

    The latest FW can be taken from this link DLPC4420AEVM Evaluation board | TI.com.
    Under the DLPC4420EVM-SW section.
    This will have an .exe which will install the FW in your system.
