CC254x Development kits

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2541, CC2540, TPS62730

Hi all,

I'm aware of the CC2540DK and the CC2540MiniDK. I would like info about the following questions, as well as release dates, since at work we have to purchase some BLE boards.

  1. I just wanted to know the final differences between the CC2540 and the CC2541. Does the CC2541 include the TPS62730?
  2. What about the development kits? Is there going to be the CC2541DK or CC2541MiniDK? I am already aware of the CC2541 boards sold separetely, thanks.
  3. What is expected to be the so called SensorTag? Is this going to support SimpleLink?

Thanks in advance.

CC2541 has I2C (instead of USB) and a lower power consumption because of optimizations in the radio module. The CC2541 can also be developed with proprietary software since all registers are exposed. The CC2541 does not include any DCDC but will get an even lower power consumption with one.

For starters, CC2541EMK is available as an add-on to the CC2540DK.

The SensorTag will be a more of an advanced version of the Keyfob, hosting 6 sensors. The main thought (I believe) is to make development easier on the Central side, since a complete SW solution hopefully will be available hosting the Sensor Tag.

CC2541 = SimpleLink is something we are working on, but you can use out network processor solution (HostTest) included in the stack for the same purpose.

I hope some things are clearer for you.

  • Hi Kazola,

Just wanted to let you know that I've touched upon your question 1 in a bit more detail on a blog post today: http://e2e.ti.com/blogs_/b/bluetooth_low_energy_blog/archive/2012/02/15/cc2541-now-released-including-support-for-bluetooth-low-energy-and-proprietary.aspx

    Best regards,

    Karl

  • I hope this week we are going to order a new CC2540DK and some CC2541EMK boards.

I will try the bosses getting me an iPhone4S or a Moto RZR but I do not think I'll be lucky.

Anyway, we are about to do some power measurement tests during some months. Perhaps we will be able to share some of the results here, as well as to do custom tests on-demand for the community.

    :)

    Thank you both.

  • Hi Nick and Karl,

When do you expect the SensorTag for CC2541 to be available?

Is it in days, weeks, months?
