Hi, I had a questions regarding the compatibilty of these two board. Are the LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2, BOOSTXL-CC2650 / CC2650MODA compatible with eacother?

Hello,

Can you clarify on what type of compatibility you mean (ie pin to pin, or features, etc)?

The CC2650 is more of a multiprotocol device as it has support for BLE, proprf, and Zigbee while the CC2640R2 only supports BLE.

I'm specifically asking about hardware compatibility between the LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2 and the BOOSTXL-CC2650MODA. My intended use is to use the LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2 as the development/debug platform (coding, flashing, and interfacing with breadboard circuitry) while using the CC2650MODA BoosterPack for BLE.

On TI's website, I see that the BOOSTXL-CC2650MODA is listed as supported with the CC2650 and CC2640 LaunchPads, but I do not see the CC2640R2 specifically mentioned. Since the CC2640R2 is an updated version of the CC2640, can you confirm whether the BOOSTXL-CC2650MODA is electrically and mechanically compatible with the LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2, and whether there are any software or pin-mapping limitations I should be aware of?

Hello,

Per the software developer guide document CC2640/CC2650 Bluetooth low energy Software Developer’s Guide (Rev. E)

"BLE-Stack v2.2.x SDK is binary compatible and exchangeable with both the CC2650 and CC2640 wireless MCUs in the same device package configuration. Throughout this document, CC2640 and CC2650 may be used interchangeably."

Though the pin out should be different between the two devices so pay attention to that.

(BLE software is the same, pin out at least package wise should be different between the CC2640 LaunchPad and CC2650MODA):
