Hello,

I have finished my firmware programming on a CC2540 device using the CC2540mini development kit. However, now that I see that the CC2541 is released I would rather use that in my final product. I see that the two are very similar but the 2541 does not have USB? Can I still program a CC2541 the same way I did using the CCdebugger included in the CC2540miniDK or does it have to be programmed differently, I2C??

Hi Karl,

It is programmed the same way! So it should be no problem to change as long as you do not need the USB interface.

So as long as the same debug pins(from the CC5240minidk board) are installed on the new board(with the 2541), it should be no problem?

Correct!

The CC2541/CC2540 are pin-compatible (except for USB/I2C), so it is possible to just replace the CC2540 with the CC2541 on the keyfob.

Hi,

Does the above mean that I could use a hex file meant for CC2540 and use it to program the CC2541 ? I.e. use CC2540_keyfob_SimpleBLEPeripheral.hex and program the CC2541 using that ?

No. There are some small differences in the low-level access that the stack does to the radio, so you will need to rebuild the example using the CC2541 version of the BLE stack libraries.
