CC2541 BLE software development

Currently we are using the CC254x as a network processor and we are having some issues getting it working correctly and my questions are:

  1. We are using Version 1.2.1 of the BLE Software development Kit:  Is there anything newer?  Are there any known issues that are not documented in the ReadMe? 
  2. We are communicating with the host through the serial port, using the Hal DMA methods – are there any known issues here?
  3. We have been searching to find any example host base code that talks to the 254X (kind of like BTool) but have found nothing of value.  Would there be some example code available that you can find?
