How do I test my CC2540 keyfob based board?

Dear Friends,

I have developed a PCB and assembled components based on "CC2540 keyfob reference design". As the image indicates, the device is detected in SmartRF flash programmer on connecting it through the CC debugger. I have programmed the "CC2540_keyfob_simpleBLEPeripheral.hex"(downloaded from TI software tools,programmed and verified successfully) .

I switched on my mobile phone's bluetooth and scanned for devices but it did not display anything related. No LED glows in the keyfob.

My question is How to test the module? , what would be the output after flashing the simpleBLEPeripheral.hex code?

I would be glad if you guys help me on testing the module.

P.S : I do not have the IAR workbench IDE. Hence, I rely only on the sample code's HEX files provided by TI web site.

Hi Pawan,

Which mobile phone do you have?
Remember you have to press one button on the default keyfob project to make it discoverable.

Hi Kazola,

I tested this with 3 mobile phones : Samsung galaxy fit , S2 and a basic samsung bluetooth enabled phone. Yeah, I had pressed the right side switch as indicated in the user guide.

Could you please tell me what name it shows (while scanning in bluetooth) as soon as the button is pressed .

Something strikes ... is it because the bluetooth version of the mobile phone is not 4.0 ?.

Yes, indeed. Bluetooth Classic (BR/EDR) is not compatible with Bluetooth low energy so you wont see any results from the scanning.

Hi Nick,

Could you please elaborate. do you mean to say that the device would'nt be detected by any mobile phone?
I just need a method to test the keyfob using a mobile phone. Is it posible?

YOU CAN'T.

Mobile phone must be Motorola RAZR or iPhone 4S or one of these new models with Bluetooth 4.0.

Hi Kazola,

I have turned on two "CC2540_Keyfob" board in parallel trying to communicate with "HTC 1V" which supports "BT 4.0" protocol. When scanning for the devices from my mobile phone both of the devices are not detected. I see no LED's are blinking while presses the button on the keyfob. I dont have any USB dongle to use as BLE master to test the communication now. Is the indicator LED's will only start blinking after it get paired with another BT4.0 device?. Or what could be the response on the keyfob if it not get paired with right device.
