Is CC2540 API not compatible with RAZAR now?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540

I have bought XT910 and ready to develope application with CC2540, but recently some friends told me CC2540 may not work smoothly with RAZAR.

And I really received a big thounder from here, where TI wrote: "Updated Motorola BLE SDK with new API is not compatible"

http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Category:BluetoothLE

Does it mean connecting CC2540 with XT910 is impossible now? If so, How to explain the TI's video introducting CC2540 and RAZAR months ago?

Thanks for any advice.

  • Can any TI employee or razr ble developer share any experience with me?I think I have went through all information at Google but found no good answer.

    Thanks for any kindly help.

  • As far as I understand, the BLE functionality of the RAZR disappeared with the update of Android from Gingerbread to ICS/Jelly Bean (not sure which). Hopefully, Motorola will bring back the BLE support in a later update.

  • Hi Karl T.

    Thanks for you important information.

My XT910 is Gingerbread 2.3.6, from the extensive feedback on Motorola forum it seems that no one has developed a workable GATT application on RAZR, including Gingerbread.  I believe enough software test with CC2540 was done since RAZR was born more than half a year ago, so what is the final conclusion?

Doctor Kart, I really need your opionion, do you think I can develop an application receiving notification data from CC2540 on XT910 Gingerbread 2.3.6. And, if 2.3.6 works, why did Motorola guys update Gingerbread to ICS without including BLE4.0, does it implicate its immature?

    Looking forward your reply.

  • Sorry, I don't have more details. I have seen our demo application (from the Wiki) run on the RAZR. As for Motorola's future plans, this is a question for Motorola, not TI.

    Best regards,

    Karl

  • Karl,

My firm would like to design an embedded system using Bluetooth communication between a small battery powered module that is Bluetooth enabled and a smart phone.  The data being transferred is minimal (time, date and small event log).  This is a low cost application.  We have never developed a Bluetooth application before and would prefer to find a low cost module.  Do you know if any are available?

  • I 'm not sure if you are talking about bluetooth 2.0/2.1/3.0, for blutooth low energy developers, we usually use CC2540 as data collector, MOTO Android smartphone and iPhone as data receiver. TI has released some develop boards which maybe helpful for you.

  • Hi chencan! I've just bought a motorola razr for develop ble apps, and i suprised with this bad notice.

Do you have any kind of responses from motorola?

Could develop some ble app for razr?

    Best regards,

    Martin Romero

  • Hi, martin!

As far as I know, seldom developers are still struggling on this platform, I strongly suggest you turn to ios platform if convenient. But you can also contact my email fanchencan@gmail.com for exchanging ideas about develop on RAZR. Depressed speed every time logging on TI website.

  • Hi,

I'm working actualy with the Motorola Razr XT910 and the Keyfob (CC2540DK mini). My Razr runs on ICS (Android 4.0.4) and I'm using the Motorola Handset SDK Addon "Motorola ICS R2". Some people think the BLE support is broken because Motorola changed their API and with that the android package names. Most of the BLE example application start with a query for the now obsolete package names and state that BLE is not supported.

It is true that the API documentation is at the moment totaly worthless, but there are two examples in the SDK-Addon which can be used as a starting point.

Recently I posted a LogCat output, where I was communicating with the Keyfob: Link.

Here is a little tutorial for the new API.
