cannot find "TI CC2540 Low-Power RF to USB CDC Serial Port" in Device Manager

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540

Just received CC2540 mini DK. After the CC debugger connected to USB port, the system installed driver automatically. SmartRF Flash Programmer found CC debugger. I can update the firmware. The green light is on. In Device Manager, I found CC debugger under Cebal controlled devices, but couldn't find the "TI CC2540 Low-Power RF to USB CDC Serial Port" under Ports (COM & LPT). Reinstalling the driver didn't solve the problem. Can anybody help?

  • Hi John,
Just to make sure, have you

    1. Installed the usb_cdc_driver_cc2540.inf driver?
    2. Programmed the CC2540USB Dongle with HostTestRelease SW? (CC2540_USBdongle_HostTestRelease_All.hex in default install directory \Accessories\HexFiles in BLEv1.2.1)

    Best Regards

  • Hi Nick,

Thanks for you reply. I did the following tests:

    1. I installed C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\Extras\Drivers\ccdebugger.inf. Is it a wrong driver?

I tried to install usb_cdc_driver_cc2540.inf at C:\Texas Instruments\BLE-CC254x-1.2.1\Accessories\Drivers and C:\Texas Instruments\BLE-CC254x-1.2.1\Components\hal\target\CC2540USB\usb\driver, I got  the error message "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware".

It seems like I didn't get the right driver,

    2. I programmed the CC2540USB dongle with  C:\Texas Instruments\BLE-CC254x-1.2.1\Accessories\HexFiles\CC2540_USBdongle_HostTestRelease_All.hex.

The  programming and verifying are OK. The red light of the USB dongle is on, and a "Found New Hard Ware Wizard" window is popped up. Is the USB dongle programmed correctly? Where can I find the driver for the dongle?

    3. I tried to program the keyfob, the battery was installed, The red light of CCdebugger is on. It seems CCdebugger couldn't find the keyfob. Is there anything wrong?

    Thanks,

    John

  • Hi John,

    1. The driver to recognize the CC2540USB Dongle (Programmed with HostTestRelease) is the usb_cdc_driver_cc2540.inf located in C:\Texas Instruments\BLE-CC254x-1.2.1\Accessories\Drivers (For BLEv1.2.1 default install directory). Check out this guide.

    2. Correct. And now you're at the stage where you should install the driver above (usb_cdc_driver_cc2540.inf).

    3. There's probably flux on the battery pad, which you should scrape off. Or, you could solder a 0 ohm resistor to the placeholder next to the debugger which allows you to power the Keyfob from the debugger (do not use battery at the same time).

    I hope this helps

    Best Regards

  • Yes! After installing driver for the dongle, I got CC2540 on COM3. The keyfob is also working after the battery pad cleaned up.

    Thanks you very much. John
