Determining scan period and interval settings for CC256x

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540, CC2564

What percentage BLE scan period and interval can we have in dual mode (CC256x)?

Is there any information/data on how the dual mode stacks share time?

We have a very low latency requirement where we would like the devices to do BLE scan at 100% so they catch the first BLE ad, but need to also respond to Bluetooth classic devices wanting to connect (although not as quickly).

  • Dear TI,

    Any update on this?

    Thanks,

    Jason

  • Hi,

This is up to the customer to decide on thier best configuration. In case of collision, BLE tasks will take preference over BT tasks most of the times.

For BT inquiry/page scan, the scan interval can be configured from 11.25ms  to 2.56sec and the scan window from 10.625ms o 2.56sec.

For BLE scanning, the scan interval can be configured from 2.5ms to 10.24sec and the scan window from 2.5ms to 10.24sec.

  • Greetings Miguel,

I have an inquiry on that. How do I set these parameters on the scanner ? ( I am working concretely on a peripheral-observer). The only parameter that comes in the simpleBLEobserver is the DEFAULT_SCAN_DURATION that is set to  TGAP_GEN_DISC_SCAN and  TGAP_LIM_DISC_SCAN, which are described as "minimum time to perform scanning". Are these terms: scan duration, time to perform scanning and scanning window actually the same ? (then why the ambivalence or trivalence?)

This is working fine for the initialization and for whenever I recall the GAPObserverRole_StartDiscovery() function. (by pressing a key or including the function in the periodic event). However I would like the device to scan constantly and automatically after initialization, something analog to the Advertising interval.

I see there are plenty of Scanning Interval and window constants, e.g. TGAP_CONN_SCAN_INT, TGAP_CONN_SCAN_WIND, TGAP_LIM_DISC_SCAN_INT,

TGAP_LIM_DISC_SCAN_WIND, and many more. I try to set them but I don't see any effect :(.

    summarizing:

How do I set the scanning parameters on the scanner (observer or central) ?

Is scan duration, time to perform scanning and scanning window actually the same ?

What for are the XX_SCAN_INIT and XX_SCAN_WIND values above mentioned and how do I use them ?

    any help would be appreciated

    Best Regards
    Luis

  • Luis,

Are you referring to the CC2564 or CC2540? They have different APIs. In the case of the CC256x, the API documentation is inside the Bluetopia SDK http://www.ti.com/tool/stonestreetone-bt-sdk.

FYI. I am moving this thread to the Bluetooth forum, where it should be.

    Regards,

    Miguel

  • Hi Miguel

You are right I was referring to CC2540.

Sorry for that I ll try to erase the post, to keep the thread clean
